Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of spaces does Makespace Oxfordshire offer?

We have a wide range of workspaces available in Oxford and other parts of the county. This includes coworking spaces in Oxford, Abingdon, and Wantage; office space and studio space in Oxford city and around Oxfordshire; and occasional individual spaces for organisations that require larger premises.

Although we aim to keep this page up to date, there are regularly new workspaces in Oxford and Oxfordshire becoming available, so fill in our application form and we’ll be in touch when the right space for you comes up.

Who can become a Makespace resident?

At Makespace Oxfordshire, we give priority to applicants making a positive social, cultural, or environmental impact. In practice, this means out spaces are filled with charities and other nonprofit organisations (such as community interest companies and community benefit societies), eco-friendly repair shops, share libraries, artists, makers, craftspeople, architects centring environmental practices, educational publishers, and community cafes, to name just a selection.

If you’re not sure whether you fit the bill, drop us a line. However, we are also open to residents who don’t necessarily tick those boxes but are a good cultural fit. For example, people who are enthusiastic about community building or about Makespace’s mission to transform the land and property system.

How much does a Makespace workspace cost?

Our rents vary depending on the size and location of the space. A small office space or studio in Wantage will cost significantly less than a large retail space in central Oxford, for instance.

In our hub spaces, we have a rent solidarity model. Rents are offered on a sliding scale of between 40% and 80% market value, depending on need and social or environmental impact. Those able to pay more help subsidise the rents of people or organisations doing good in the community who don’t have the resources for higher rates.

Where does Makespace operate?
