(Re)Founding: Our Vision for the Future

What if Oxfordshire was a healthy, thriving, just space for all for generations to come?

That question drives us at Makespace. We’ve spent the last 18 months developing a long-term vision: to support communities across Oxfordshire to unlock space, build power, and shape a more just land and property system.

Current issues in the land and property system and our vision for change

Since 2018, we’ve reanimated 30 vacant buildings and supported over 200 organisations into affordable space. That work showed what’s possible. But now we’re stepping into a deeper commitment.

Our North Star is spatial justice:

A future where everyone has access to the safe, secure and beautiful spaces they need to live happy, healthy, creative and connected lives; where communities develop power and belonging in their places; and where our property system helps us live well within planetary boundaries.

We’re taking action across three horizons:

1. Unlocking space now for those driving social and environmental change
2. Building towards community ownership and lasting local stewardship
3. Reimagining and transforming the system so spatial justice comes to life, for current and future generations
