Makespace Oxford: COVID Update

In this challenging time, Makespace Oxford is doing all we can to help keep our community healthy and safeguard those in our building who are more vulnerable or in contact with vulnerable people. From Monday the 23rd of March, we will be closing our building to the general public and only allowing essential access to residents unable to work from home. Most of our residents have already vacated the building and are now working remotely or self-isolating.  All events within the building are now being held remotely or have been cancelled.

When setting up our space at Aristotle Lane, Makespace Oxford made it our mission to provide space and support to social enterprises and community organisations with social purpose. We are highly aware of the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic will have on the individuals and organisations that call Makespace home, both personally and in terms of their financial sustainability.

However, we are fortunate to have a strong, well-networked community of residents who are providing mutual aid and virtual support to each other already.

Makespace Oxford is also developing plans about how we can continue to provide practical support to our residents, use our resources to support the grassroots community response to the crisis, as well as acting as an amplifier to raise the concerns of our residents and campaign publicly.

In addition, we’re hoping to schedule regular video workshops online to respond to new and urgent needs businesses may have, similar to our Business breakfasts we have done in the past. Please get in contact if you have support you can offer, an online workshop you’d like to run or topics you’d like to hear about. We will be making these available to our whole community, not only our residents.

We will make more announcements in the coming weeks with any updates to our building and activities.

Until then, with solidarity and washed hands

The Makespace Oxford Team
